BEFORE APPLYING

If you are serious about enrolling in CCM's certificate programs ( Music / Audio Engineering and Music Production / Artist Development ), it is important that you come as prepared as possible. We want to make sure that you get the most out your studies in the programs we have to offer.

The self check pages are a rough overview of things you should be familiar with prior to enrolling. We don’t expect that our entering students have knowledge of every single detail on these pages, but you should be more-less comfortable with approximately 70% of all the examples.

The examples are:

  • The Sightreading/Sightsinging page Click here for print version

Use your instrument or voice (depending on whether you are a instrumentalist or vocalist) to read through these music examples. Reading should be done without much prior practice and with a consistent tempo. Typically, our Level 1 students read at tempos ranging from 40bpm to 70bpm. As you’ll see, the examples get gradually more difficult towards the end of the page.

Keep in mind that it is important that you are able to play intervals, scales and chords on an instrument apart from knowing how to spell them.

This page has guidelines on what your audio or video audition should consist of. It is a mandatory part of the students’ application process at the California College of Music .
